DIY gas heater

With the onset of cold weather, many want to have a small economical source of heat, which could be taken with them to the garage, to the cottage or on a hike. The optimal source of energy for such a device is gas. Electricity is not so economical, and not everywhere, and when using gasoline, unpleasant odors and soot cannot be avoided.

Of course, modern industry produces many models of portable gas heaters, but not everyone can afford them. In an effort to save money, many are trying to make such devices with their own hands.

About one of the options for easy to manufacture, but at the same time convenient and efficient heating device, we will tell in this article.

The manufacturing process of the proposed portable gas heater is quite simple, and many materials and tools necessary for work will be found in the household.

For work, we need the following materials:

  • Hemispherical metal kitchen sieve;
  • Tin sheet;
  • A piece of metal mesh;
  • 0.5 L gas bottle + burner with valve (sold at any supermarket).

How to make a gas heater? From the tool you need to prepare:

  • Marker;
  • Scissors for metal;
  • Klepochnik;
  • Rivets capable of riveting from a thickness of 1 mm;
  • A screwdriver with a drill (the diameter of the drill is selected depending on the size of the rivets).

How to make a gas heater with your own hands? When all the tools and materials are prepared, we get to work. The first step is the manufacture of a heat exchanger to dissipate heat from the burner flame.

We disconnect the handle from the sieve, we will no longer need it. Take a sieve, lean against a sheet of tin and draw a marker around the contour. To the resulting circle on four sides we draw rectangular ears of about 3 cm by 1.5 cm.

We carefully cut two identical workpieces along the contour with metal scissors, remove one of them to the side, it will be useful to us at the second stage of work. We continue with the first workpiece, with the help of scissors we cut in the center a circle with a diameter 5-7 mm less than the outer diameter of the burner.

We bend two ears on the workpiece up and with the help of rivets we connect it with a metal sieve. We place the resulting structure on a gas burner and fix it due to the remaining two ears, bent down.

Well, the first stage is completed, now the flame from the burner will dissipate on a sieve and heat the surrounding volume. You can dwell on this, but we advise you to slightly modify the design, increasing its effectiveness.

The second step will be the implementation of an additional heat transfer circuit on our heater. It will be a metal glass, the bottom of which we will make from the remaining tin blank, and the walls from a fine mesh.

We take the second workpiece, drill 10-15 holes in it, cut a strip of mesh 8-10 cm wide. We fasten two parts with rivets. It remains to cover the original design with the resulting product and proceed to the tests.

Experts advise against using homemade gas heaters on an ongoing basis. These designs are good as a cheap alternative to industrial counterparts presented in stores for periodic trips to nature or to the garage.

If you want to gasify a summer house, garage or greenhouse on an ongoing basis, it is worth taking a closer look at industrial models of heaters. They are more effective and safe, because they have several degrees of protection.

If you still decide to make a gas heater yourself, then for safety reasons, be sure to carefully study and think through the design of the device, provide a simple and intuitive way to activate / deactivate.

Important! All elements of the device responsible for the supply of gas should only be manufactured industrially, not subject to modifications in the course of activities.

Any heat source that uses open burning is a means of increased danger. And first of all, this applies to gas equipment. For your own safety, to avoid explosion, fire or poisoning from combustion products, carefully observe the following safety rules:

  1. When using a gas heater, an influx of fresh air is mandatory. Reducing the amount of oxygen and the accumulation of combustion products carries a risk to human life.
  2. When used, the heater design heats up to very high temperatures. Do not place the device near flammable materials, never touch it with your hands until it cools completely.
  3. The gas cylinder must be stored strictly upright and in a well-ventilated area.

Despite all the difficulties, gas heaters are very popular among the population. In compliance with safety requirements and proper operation, even a do-it-yourself machine will serve you for many years.
