The TV does not see the digital set-top box

The advent of the digital TV era was marked by a series of unexpected problems. It would seem: I bought the console, "tulips" connected it to the TV, connected the antenna to it and that's it. But sometimes these actions are not enough even to see the T2 tuner menu, not to mention the search for available channels.

Possible connection problems, their solution

Quite often, users try to pass the signal through the prefix "the old fashioned way" - using the antenna cable. But this method only works with very old TVs, for which a tuner with the corresponding input and output is bought: the cable coming from the antenna is connected to the jack marked INPUT or IN. The one that is designed to transmit the signal to the TV is inserted into the OUTPUT or OUT jack.

With more modern TV models in which the AV connection module is built-in, this method will not work. The presence of connectors indicates its presence:

  • RCA - three sockets, painted in yellow, white and red colors (for monosound - only two: white and yellow-green);
  • SCART - wide, with numerous sockets located in 2 rows;
  • HDMI is a flat input / output characteristic of modern devices.

Sometimes a TV has several different types of connectors. In such a situation, it is necessary to study their labeling. There are frequent cases of attempts to connect using tulips to the RSA output of the TV, while a massive SCART comb, which is usually not included in the T2 tuner kit, is intended for the incoming signal.

The general rule is this: that on the set-top box it is connected to OUTPUT connectors, on the TV panel it is connected to INPUT jacks. And if in the basic configuration there are no necessary wires, you just need to buy a SCART-RCA adapter (tulips are connected to the console, and the comb to the TV). For owners of modern technology with HDMI connectors, the foregoing wisdom is redundant - the appropriate cable will allow you to get the highest quality image and sound. True, he also most often has to be bought separately from the tuner.

Sometimes there are several “audio / video” channels on the TV, switching between them is done by pressing a button on the TV remote control with an arrow pointing in a circle or rectangle. Before you tune in to a panic, you need to check them all.

Another of the “starting” errors is attempts to use an unincluded prefix. If the green indicator does not light on it, then it is time to take the remote control from the tuner and press the round red button. If the T2 set-top box is correctly connected to the TV, this will lead to the appearance of the logo of its manufacturers on one of the AV channels.

What else could be the reason

The most common problems are antennas and cables. The first ones are a bit simpler: just make sure that decimetric is used (they are delivered without long elements, therefore they stand out in compact dimensions). Sometimes it is replaced by a Polish grid, in which case it is necessary to estimate the distance to the relay tower: if it is close, then the amplifier must be dismantled.

An important point is monitoring the position of the antenna. She always turns towards the repeater. Also, between it and the tower there should not be shielding signal obstacles.

The next step is cable inspection. It is easiest to check the plug and connection points: the central core must not come into contact with the shielding braid. If everything is in order there, you should determine the integrity of the cable using a tester or connecting to a known working antenna. Broken and burned out will require replacement. Otherwise, you should contact the telemaster.
